Renée Fleming Receives Tony Nomination for Her Turn as Nettie Fowler in Carousel Revival

SOPRANO RENÉE FLEMING has been nominated for a Tony Award in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her turn as Nettie Fowler in the revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel currently playing on Broadway.  

Nominations for the 72nd Annual Tony Awards were announced today by Leslie Odom Jr. and Katharine McPhee. 

Fleming made her Broadway debut in 2015 as Raquel De Angelis in Joe DiPietro's comedy Living on Loveand effectively announced last year that she was phasing out some of her touchstone opera roles—the Marschallin, the title role in Rusalka and Desdemona—but not retiring altogether from the opera stage. 

The other nominees in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical include Fleming's Carousel co-star Lindsay Mendez; Ariana DeBose of Summer: The Donna Summer Musical; Ashley Park for Mean Girls; and Diana Rigg for My Fair Lady.

The revival of Carousel, currently playing at the Imperial Theatre, received a total of eleven nominations, including nods for Best Revival of a Musical; Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical; Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical; Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical; Best Costume Design of a Musical; Best Lighting Design of a Musical; Best Sound Design of a Musical; Best Choreography; and Best Orchestrations.

The Tony Awards will take place on June 10, 2018 at Radio City Music Hall, and will be hosted by Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles. spacer
