Marco Armiliato and Bertrand de Billy to Lead Upcoming Performances of Il Trovatore and Luisa Miller at Metropolitan Opera

THE METROPOLITAN OPERA has announced that conductors Marco Armiliato and Bertrand de Billy have both been tapped to replace James Levine in this season's performances of Il Trovatore and Luisa Miller, respectively.

Armiliato, who has led more than four-hundred performances at the Met since his 1998 debut, will lead performances of David McVicar’s production of Il Trovatore featuring Maria Agresta as Leonora, Yonghoon Lee as Manrico, and Anita Rachvelishvili as Azucena and Quinn Kelsey and Luca Salsi sharing the role of Count di Luna. The Trovatore performances are scheduled for January 22, 26, 30, Feb 3 (matinee), 6, 9, 12 and 15, 2018. Later in 2018, Armiliato is scheduled to lead three Puccini operas at the Met: La Bohème, Madama Butterfly and Turandot.  

De Billy, who also made his Met debut in 1998, serves as principal guest conductor of the Dresdner Philharmonie. Formerly the music director of both Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in Vienna, de Billy will also conduct performances of Tosca and Cendrillon at the Met this season. Luisa Miller, which will take the stage in Elijah Moshinsky’s production, will feature Sonya Yoncheva in the title role, with Plácido Domingo as her father; Piotr Beczała sings the role of Rodolfo and Olesya Petrova is Federica. Luisa Miller performances are scheduled for March 29, Apr 2, 6, 9, 14 (matinee), 18 and 21 (matinee), 2018, and the April 14 matinée will transmitted live to movie theaters worldwide as as part of the Met’s Live in HD series. spacer
