Met to Present Live in HD Transmission of John Adams' Nixon in China During 2010-11 Season

The Metropolitan Opera announced today that the company has added a performance of John Adams’ Nixon in China to the roster of its Live in HD transmissions for next season.

The opera, which receive its company premiere in a new production by director and longtime Adams collaborator Peter Sellars, will play on Saturday, February 12, 2011, and will feature Adams conducting his own score. Baritone James Maddalena, who created the title role at the opera's 1987 world premiere, sings the character of Nixon.

The transmission of Nixon will be the Met's twelfth Live in HD offering during the 2010-11 season. In addition to Adams' opera, five of the transmissions during the fifth season of the Live in HD series will be of new productions, including Das Rheingold (October 9) and Die Walküre (May 14), the first two installments of Robert Lepage’s new production of Wagner’s Ring cycle; a transmission of Boris Godunov on October 23; Don Carlo (December 11); and a showing of Le Comte Ory on April 9. Revivals slated to receive HD transmissions include Don Pasquale (November 13), La Fanciulla del West (January 8), Iphigénie en Tauride (February 26), Lucia di Lammermoor (March 19), Capriccio (April 23) and Il Trovatore (April 30). spacer
