September 15 Los Angeles Opera opens its season with the company premiere of Verdi’s Venetian tragedy I Due Foscari. (For more background, see “Dark Shadows.”)	September 24 Anna Netrebko’s Adina is a key ingredient in The Metropolitan Opera’s season-opening L’Elisir d’Amore. (For more on the role of Adina, see “Ladies’ Night.”)

October 6 Christine Goerke sings her heart out in the new Elektra that opens the Lyric Opera of Chicago season. (For more on Goerke, see “Dramatic Destination.")	October 10 Jake Heggie’s opera of Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick, a smash hit in its previous outings, has its San Francisco Opera premiere.

October 23 The Tempest, a magical adaptation of Shakespeare’s play by Thomas Adès, arrives at The Met in a new staging by Robert Lepage.	February 15 Thomas Adès’s Powder Her Face — a bawdy gloss on the erotic exploits of Margaret, Duchess of Argyll — has its New York City Opera premiere at BAM’s Howard Gilman Opera House. (It’s a big year for Her Grace: another new Powder Her Face staging opens at Opera Company of Philadelphia on June 7.)

February 15 Jonas Kaufmann stars as Wagner’s “Holy Fool” in The Met’s new production of Parsifal.	March 14 A Streetcar Named Desire pulls into Carnegie Hall, with Renée Fleming and Teddy Tahu Rhodes on board as Blanche and Stanley. The next Streetcar stop will be at Lyric Opera of Chicago, where a four-performance run of André Previn’s opera begins on March 26

March 30 Ferruccio Furlanetto returns to San Diego Opera in one of his favorite roles — Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, in Pizzetti’s rarely-performed Murder in the Cathedral.	April 12 Who’s got mail? Dallas Opera celebrates the twenty-fifth anniversary of The Aspern Papers with a new production of Dominick Argento’s opera.

April 18 Nina Stemme makes her Houston Grand Opera debut as Isolde to Ben Heppner’s Tristan. Patrick Summers conducts.	May 4 The third of The Met’s three 2013 Ring cycles begins, with veteran Wotan Greer Grimsley singing his first Met Rheingold. On August 4, Grimsley starts a run as Wotan in Seattle Opera’s Ring.
